Who we are
UK Rest (uk-rest.com and its restaurant sub-domains) is operated by UK Rest. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can contact us at [email protected].
Information we collect
When you contact us
When you use our contact form we collect your name, email address, telephone number (if given), the restaurant details you provide, your message, the time you sent it and your IP address. We use this to reply to you, to add, update or remove listings and to protect the form against abuse.
When you browse the site
Our hosting provider records technical information for every request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working. We use a short-lived record of IP addresses (kept for up to 24 hours) to limit the number of form submissions.
With your consent only, we also use:
- Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages viewed, approximate location, device type).
- Google AdSense to show adverts that fund the directory. This is currently switched off.
In the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and Switzerland these services set no cookies until you agree in the cookie notice. See our cookie policy.
Maps
Restaurant pages include an embedded Google Map so that you can see where the restaurant is. When the map loads, your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address and may set its own cookies. Google's use of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Restaurant listings
Listings contain information about businesses taken from public sources: the Food Standards Agency register, OpenStreetMap and the businesses' own websites. Where a business is run by an individual, a listing may include information that relates to that person, such as a trading name or business telephone number. We process this information in our legitimate interest in providing an accurate public directory. Business owners can ask us to correct or remove a listing at any time.
Our lawful bases
- Consent – analytics and advertising cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time using “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page.
- Legitimate interests – running and securing the website, publishing the directory, showing each restaurant's location on a map, and answering enquiries.
- Legal obligation – where we must keep or disclose information by law.
Who we share information with
We share personal data only with service providers that help us run the site: our web hosting and email providers, Google for the maps on restaurant pages and, if you consent, Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC for analytics and advertising. Google may process data in the United States; such transfers are covered by the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or other safeguards approved under UK law. We do not sell personal data.
How long we keep information
- Contact form messages: up to 24 months after our last correspondence.
- Form rate-limit records: up to 24 hours.
- Server logs: as set by our hosting provider, normally no longer than 30 days.
- Analytics data (if you consent): 14 months.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its use, to data portability and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, telephone 0303 123 1113.
Children
This site is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top.
